Meet janice
Hi! I’m Janice McMurdo, a West Auckland business owner and the founder of Onion Jam Creative Foods. I’m a foodie who understands the spiritual side of life. In addition to cooking, I also practice Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Technique (E.F.T). I have a passion for delicious food and over twenty-five years’ worth of experience in the hospitality and food industry.

In 2001 I established the Café Regent in the foyer of the old Regent Cinema in Helensville. After equipping the café and adding a kitchen and a cool room, I added twenty cinema seats, a large screen, and a DVD projector and held a popular series of dinner and movies every Saturday night. It was a hit with the locals and people came from Auckland, Muriwai, and surrounding areas to enjoy the experience. The Café Regent featured musicians, poets, parties, weddings, and was very popular with the local music scene.
At the Café Regent I learned that my passion was creating delicious, flavourful, and most importantly, affordable food that people wanted to eat. Cafe Regent closed in March 2007.
In 2013 I established Food for Thought and Onion Jam and since then I’ve devoted my time to honing my cooking skills and creating delicious food for my customers. Unfortunately, the shop Food for Thought is now closed but I am still operating from my premises at 72 Commercial Road, Helensville.
